Digital Design Commissions

Send us pictures of a boat. We turn it into a ready-to-print RC boat.

Any boat you want to print. Your own, one you saw at the marina, a dream boat, a classic. Send the pictures, we design the RC version, and you get the complete STL pack ready to print and run.

Every hull in the TMRC store started as pictures of a real boat and ended up as files that actually run on the water. This is the same process, pointed at the boat you want.

GET YOUR FREE ESTIMATE

Digital files only. Nothing physical ships. Looking for a fully built, painted, ready-to-run boat instead? See Custom Builds.

How it works

  1. Request your free estimate. Fill out the form below and add your pictures.
  2. We review and quote. You get a fixed price and a delivery estimate for that boat.
  3. Accept and start. A 50% deposit starts the design. We send renders at the key stages so you can confirm the look before anything is finalized.
  4. Delivery in about 3 weeks. The balance is due when the files are ready. You receive the full STL pack by digital download.

If you decide not to move forward after the quote, you owe nothing.

What you get

  • Complete ready-to-print STL pack, designed as a fully functional RC boat and sized to your printer
  • Bill of materials with sources for every part
  • Recommended print settings and orientation notes
  • Render check-ins during design, with up to two rounds of revisions before files are finalized
  • Help with the printing and build process of your custom design

Engineered, not just modeled

A display model only has to look right. A TMRC commission has to float level, sit at the right trim, take the torque of the motors and survive the water. So every custom design goes through the same process a naval architect uses on a full-size hull, scaled down to RC.

  1. Reference survey and scale definition. We take the main dimensions from your pictures and the boat's published specs: length overall, beam, deadrise, chine and strake positions. Then we set the scale factor from your target RC length and your printer's build volume.
  2. Lines plan and hull fairing. The hull is built from station, buttock and waterline sections in Autodesk Fusion, then faired to continuous curvature. That keeps the running surface, chines and strakes true to the real boat.
  3. Weight and balance. We lay out the motors, ESCs, batteries and servos to set the center of gravity and running trim. The layout follows what we've learned from water testing our own TMRC hulls, so your design starts from setups proven on the water.
  4. Print engineering. We set the wall thickness for strength where the loads go. The hull is split into printable sections sized to your bed, with alignment keys and bonding flanges so the sections line up and glue up true, and each part is oriented so the layer lines carry the load.
  5. Propulsion and running-gear integration. We engineer the motor mounts, shaft and transom angles, struts, rudder, steering linkage, hatches and battery access, and sealing, all around your chosen drive setup.
  6. Superstructure and detail. The console, T-top, tower and hardtop are modeled to scale and tied into the hull structure.
  7. Verification. We run a full digital assembly and interference check in CAD and a quality check on every print file. You get renders to approve before anything is finalized.

That's weeks of engineering per hull, done for one boat. It's why commissions are quoted one boat at a time instead of sold off the shelf. Your price depends on hull complexity, superstructure detail, drive configuration and the number of print sections. The free estimate gives you a fixed price before any work starts.

We help you print and build it

Your commission does not end at the download. We help you through the printing and build process of your custom design. Stuck on a print setting, a part or a step of the build? Reach out and we will help you work through it.

Pick your rights option

Shared Design

You get the files first and a 90-day head start before TMRC may release the design as an STL pack in the store. Lower price, because the design goes on to help fund the next one.

Exclusive Design

TMRC never sells or releases the design. Roughly double the Shared price.

Both include a personal-use license. Commercial or resale rights are quoted separately on request.

What to send

  • Clear pictures: bow, stern, both sides, top-down if you can, plus close-ups of the console, tower and transom. Screenshots from the internet are fine for a boat you do not own.
  • Make and model if you know it, or the real boat's length and beam
  • The RC length you want (most builds run 30 to 55 inches) and your printer bed size
  • Power setup: single or twin outboard, inboard, straight shaft or surface drive
  • Shared or Exclusive

This is a DIY RC project delivered as files. No hardware, motors, electronics, batteries, filament or paint included. Designs are original TMRC work inspired by your reference pictures and are not affiliated with or endorsed by any boat or engine manufacturer. Full terms: Custom Design Commission Terms.
